Los Angeles, CA (July 1, 2025) – Music is good for the soul...and the economy. The LA Phil, California’s largest nonprofit performing arts organization and one of the top three in the nation, generated nearly $1 billion for California’s economy in 2024, according to a new report. In the aftermath of the devastating Los Angeles area wildfires and ahead of major global events like the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Olympics, this data shows that the LA Phil is a key driver of economic resilience for the city.
As the largest orchestra in the world by breadth and budget and the cultural institution with the highest economic impact in Los Angeles—the LA Phil continues to serve as a vital engine for growth. While budget cuts loom and national economic uncertainty grows, the LA Phil remains a powerful force supporting thousands of workers, generating tax revenue, and enriching civic life.
Commissioned by the LA Phil and conducted by the leading research and analytics firm Beacon Economics, the report, titled “Los Angeles Philharmonic Economic, Fiscal, and Social Impact Analysis,” unpacks the LA Phil’s impact on the local and state economies.
Key takeaways:
“The LA Phil is part of the very fabric of Los Angeles, and we are proud to contribute to LA’s thriving economy and vibrant community,” said Kim Noltemy, President and CEO of the LA Phil. “This report reinforces what we’ve long believed—that investing in the transformative power of music creates ripple effects far beyond our concert venues. The LA Phil’s impact is only possible thanks to the collective efforts of artists, audiences, civic leaders, donors, and partners who believe in the value of culture in public life, and we look forward to continuing to serve the Los Angeles community and contribute to the city’s economic growth.”
In addition to the LA Phil’s sweeping economic impact, the organization’s other legacy is its work to expand access to the arts and deepen its community impact. Through Youth Orchestra Los Angeles (YOLA), the organization’s flagship music education program, the LA Phil provided free instruments and intensive, tuition-free instruction to nearly 1,700 students in underserved communities last year, supporting over 230 jobs and cultivating future generations of artists and audiences.
